On
Wednesday, March 27 at 7:00 p.m., the: Foundation for Hellenic
Culture in New York (located on 7 West 57 Street) will host a
poetry evening featuring three acclaimed Greek poets. Tassos Denegris
and Antonis Fostieris, coming from Greece, will join forces with
Dinos Siotis from Boston to present their poetry to the New York
public. The poets will read their works in Greek and English exploring
with their distinct and intriguing styles the landscape of Greek
contemporary poetry. Discussion with the public will follow.
Tassos Denegris, born in Athens (1934) after graduating
from the American College in Athens and the French Institute,
pursued social studies at the University of Rome. He gave up his
long-term career in the Greek ministries of Press and External
Affairs, and came to the USA to attend the International Writing
Program at the University of Iowa. His works include: The Wolf
s Blood, Instantly, The Nature of Things, and Spirit of Defense.
His poetry has been translated in many languages and he has presented
his work in various international festivals. His work "...suggests
that we first become enchanted by something originally inconceivable,
a small phrase, a few words and then search for the possible and
impossible notions that burst out from these few words.

Born
in the island of Tinos in 1944, Dinos Siotis studied
law in Athens and then let for the USA where he lives and
works to this day. Mr. Siotis writes in Greek and English
and his work is translated in various languages. Some of
his works are: So What, Us and the Rainmaker, Part Time
Paradise, Attempt, Foreign Territory. Dinos Siotis is the
only of the three poets who doesn't live in Greece and this
separation from the mother country is imprinted on his poetry
with boldness, humor and honesty. . . .He has the
clear vision of the contemporary transnational man of the
world balancing his experience of multiple homes, times
and traditions." |

Antonis
Fostieris, born in Athens (1953), studied law in Athens
and Paris. He has been honored with the Kavafis international
award and the Vrettakos national award. Since 1981 Mr. Fostieris
is the publisher of the literary Greek Magazine Aeon
(The World). His works, translated in many languages, include:
The Big Journey, Dark Love, Poetry Within Poetry. For Mr.
Fostieris, Poetry, as he once said, is "a way of looking
at everything, a personal internal system to help us articulate
and give meaning to the unconnected, incoherent nature of
things." |
