DEROY & SUZANA FALCONI
"ABSTRACTION | SURREALISM"
At first glance, Joelle Deroy’s work –dense
abstract paintings inspired by Chinese calligraphy- and
Susana Falconi’s art –sleek paintings in continuity
with Magritte and Dali- have little in common.
Yet, when those two artists met, five years ago, they
immediately found many common points in spirit. Nurturing
artistic exchanges blossomed since then, either on the
topic of art itself or on the techniques of painting.
They thus decided to set up a joint exhibition, which
would help appreciate the uniqueness of each style.
Susana Falconi –daughter of a famous
Ecuadorian painter- has found in painting her most powerful
and complete means of expression. Her natural wittiness
and sense of humor, in conjunction with her astounding
skills, allow her to create virtual worlds that the viewer
can travel at ease.
Deroy’s art speak very much of
an inner world, where joyful life forces express themselves
freely on the canvas. In addition to long-time Asian influence,
however, Deroy’s recent encounter with jazz tradition
in Harlem enticed her to search for new rhythms, where
asymmetry becomes a needed counterpoint of symmetry.
Lila Benaissa: Lila Benaissa, recognized
today as a hugely talented young musician, started playing
the violin at 3 years old. She is currently at the Brooklyn
Queens Conservatory of Music and performed in particular
at the Carnegie Hall and with NY Pops. Her repertoire
include both classical and jazz musics.
Please come and share with Deroy and Falconi the pleasures
of painting.
