(Denver,
CO) The MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART | DENVER (MCA)
in collaboration with the
Metropolitan State College of Denver's Center for the
Visual Arts (CVA) present Decades of Influence:
Colorado 1985 - Present, a multimedia exhibit
featuring seventy-two contemporary Colorado artists
who have been instrumental in shaping the creative region
and beyond over the past two decades.
Decades of Influence: Colorado 1985 - Present
will include works in all media from painting to video,
resulting in the first survey of Colorado art by a Colorado
curator, thereby articulating a singular curatorial perspective.
The curatorial imperative is to discuss the artworks selected
within the larger context of global movements. Nationally
and internationally, this period marks a significant shift
in the language and content of art and critical thinking
about media and artistic intent. Collections of contemporary
art have reflected the immediacy and responsiveness of
art across all geographic lines. "This exhibit illustrates
that the dominate culture of art has changed dramatically
and artists from Colorado are firmly poised as content
providers and influential practitioners," said Cydney
Payton, the Museum's Director/Curator.
The curatorial process for this exhibit utilized the following
criteria: the artists' mastery of their medium, the artists'
historical influence in relation to local/national art
movements of the last twenty years, the artists' pursuit
of technical advancement in their chosen media, the artists'
achievement (within their lifetime), and the artists'
on-going relationship to a studio practice of merit and
integrity.
