Solo Exhibition

Bodell/Fahey
– UMBRELLA ARTS,
inaugurating its upcoming series of painters is pleased
to present a solo exhibition of new works by Greta
Waller. A recent graduate of Cooper Union, Waller
has spent the past year in a dilapidated, spirit inhabited
Victorian mansion in West Cornwall Connecticut, known
as the Pink House. This remote location on the Housatonic
River and home to one of New England's last remaining
covered bridges is a throw back in time. Artists and writers
have long been drwan to this mustically charged area,
which sets the stage for the body of work in this show.
Waller's oils tell the story of her year surviving midnight
hauntings while maintaining a rigorous and complete immersion
in her work.
Like
a furniture restorer, Waller polishes the beauty of the
objects in this former stagecoach stop with her adept
and rich style. When asked what kind of painter she is
Waller replies, "I am a Contemporary Antiquarian."
Umbrella
Arts, founded by art veterans Mary Ann Fahey
and Margaret Bodell, is the newest addition
to exhibition spaces in the East Village.
Since the early 90's both Fahey and Bodell have given
photographers and painters their first opportunities to
show work. Both gallerists have worked to expand the traditional
notion of an art exhibition by using it as a vehicle for
creating community and promoting social change. Gallery
hours are Thursday through Sunday, 1 - 6pm and by appointment.
