CITYarts’ 37TH ANNUAL BENEFIT & AWARDS CEREMONY
HONORING DEEPAK CHOPRA, THEODORE BERGER AND ANDREW KRIEGER
CREATING “PIECES FOR PEACE” MOSAIC PROJECT WITH YOUTH AROUND THE WORLD

It's hard to imagine officials from the United States, Israel, Jordan, Germany, Korea, Pakistan and India joining hands in solidarity to promote international peace. But that's exactly what will happen when CITYarts, one of New York City's leading cultural institutions, launches “Pieces for Peace.”

“Pieces for Peace” will feature artistic creations submitted by children from some 50 countries around the world, including Botswana, Germany, Kazakhstan, Korea, Russia, the United States and Yemen. It will be the centerpiece of CITYarts 37th Annual Benefit Dinner Awards and Auction, which will be attended by ambassadors from 20 countries on April 27, 2005 at The Americas Society, located at 680 Park Avenue, NYC.

The three honorees of this year’s benefit are linked by their visionary spirits, they include:
Promoter of peace, Deepak Chopra, M.D., who continues to transform our understanding of the meaning of health and spirit and author of “Peace Is The Way.” He will sign his books at the event (www.deepakchopra.com).
Theodore S. Berger, Executive Director of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). Nationally known for more than thirty years as a strong advocate, educator and community leader, Ted has served on numerous Task Forces, committees, panels and boards. (www.nyfa.org).
Andrew J. Krieger, principal of Northbridge Capital Management, is founder of the IMGE Emergency Relief Fund, a Tsunami Relief organization. He created the “Save the Family” program whose “Life Packages” have restored the livelihoods over 100 India-based families to date (www.imgeemergency.com).

According to Tsipi Ben-Haim, Executive Director of CITYarts, “Pieces for Piece” is the most ambitious project that the organization has undertaken since its inception in 1968. This project is based on the belief that bringing U.S. children together with children from around the world helps foster greater understanding between diverse cultures, and these children, in turn, can be agents of future change.

As you may know, CITYarts brings together professional artists and New Yorkers of all ages, targeting kids ranging from 8 to 18, to revitalize and transform New York City neighborhoods. To date, CITYarts has sponsored more than 250 permanent murals, sculptures and mosaics throughout New York City's five boroughs, involving more than 500 artists and 100,000 young people. Each work addresses a social issue facing the youth of today.

“Pieces for Peace” is weaving together hundreds of individual artworks and poems from around the world to form an online mosaic. Beginning in July 2005, these elements will be incorporated into a permanent, large-scale outdoor mosaic in a popular Harlem playground. Over 200 kids from New York and the United States will work together with the international visiting students.

We believe honoring Deepak Chopra, Ted Berger and Andrew J. Krieger at our April 27th Benefit Dinner will make an interesting story for your readers. We will be in touch during the next week to gauge your level of interest and provide an invitation to the event. In the meantime, we can be reached at 212-966-0377 or info@cityarts.org, should you require additional information. We look forward to speaking with you soon.
